Seasonal Cleanse: The Fall Edition
Seasonal ayurvedic cleanses are short, whole food resets for the body-mind-energy system. Every six months, following the Ayurvedic tradition of cleansing at the start of the Fall and of the Spring, I provide a seasonally tailored program to give our systems a combination of deep cleansing and deep nourishment. Complete with a recipe guide and group interaction via WhatsApp, you'll have a fascinating cleanse adventure whether you're a first timer or an old hand. Running from Oct 15-31, participants will choose their own start date for a consecutive 10 days. I'll guide you through 3 prep days, 3-4 cleanse days depending on how you're feelng, and 3 re-entry days.

SUPPORT
Ayurveda puts YOU in the driver's seat of your own health. During our 10 days together, you'll be crafting your own cleansing food with recipe guidance from our Cleanse Handbook. We'll also have three optional Zoom meetings, and daily connections via WhatsApp. WhatsApp will provide our living classroom space, where participants can ask questions, share observations, and check in, and where I can respond and share additional information.FOOD
We'll be working with kitchari as a mono-diet during our deep cleansing days. Leading up to our 10 days together, we'll be weaning ourselves off caffeine, alcohol, sugar, and processed food. Once we start our cleanse, food will be like this:
Days 1-3: Following recipes in the Cleanse Handbook, we'll be working with a vegan, freshly prepared, whole foods diet. We've already removed caffeine, alcohol, sugar, and processed food. Now, we're also taking out dairy and other animal products, including meat and eggs.
Days 4-7: Kitchari, kichadi, khichdi - different spelllings for the same thing. This easy-to-digest gently spiced stew of mung beans and rice with vegetables will be breakfast, lunch and dinner during the most stringent part of our cleanse, allowing our bodies to deep clean.
Days 8-10: We'll be leaving kitchari in the dust, along with all the junk our body has been able to process and release. These final three days see us back in the Cleanse Handbook, adding variety, but sticking with a clean, whole foods, vegan diet as our agni (our digestive fire) gets fully back on-line.
Post-cleanse: you'll slowly add back in the foods and substances you choose to return to: eggs, dairy, animal proteins, etc. There is a method, and I'll share it with you.WHY DO WE DO THIS?
Many cultures have long standing traditions of seasonal fasting. Muslim communities observe Ramadan, many Christian communities fast during lent or abstain from meat products other than fish on Fridays, and in Ayurveda, a fast every six months helps to clean out the accumulated build up from the previous two seasons.
As we move into Fall, a time of low immunity for many of us yet one rife with colds, flus, and Covids, a seasonal cleanse gives us the chance to clean out the excess mucous left over from Spring and any heat built up from the Summer. Both of these could be depleting our ojas (immune response and one of our vital life energies).
As we move out of the Winter and into the Spring, we can clean out any accumulated junk from the colder seasons, and work with what's happening in nature. As the weather warms, toxins (ama) in the body that solidified over the colder months begin to thaw, and a cleanse will help us move them out of our system as they soften up.
Regular cleansing reduces the build up of ama (toxins) in the body. The build up of ama causes brain fog, reduced immune response, trouble sleeping, aches and pains, weight gain, a sense of heaviness in the mind and body, and can lead us further down a disease pathway. Seasonal cleansing can help brighten and clarify our mind and mood, give us a reset with food choices if we've gotten a little lax, improve digestion which is the basis for health in Ayurveda, and boost our immune response.
